It seemed as if the cold and windy conditions in Christchurch caught Washington Sundar a little off guard as the 23-year-old encountered a brain fade moment after the match was abandoned due to rain.

One of India’s few bright spots in a poor ODI series against New Zealand was Washington Sundar. The bright young player had a spectacular comeback with meaningful performances after missing a significant period of time due to injuries. After scoring 37 not out and 51 in the first and third ODIs in Auckland and Christchurch, respectively, Washington, who is regarded as a bowling all-rounder, is really making more noise with the bat. Washington’s innings gave India a final boost toward the end of the innings on both occasions. In Auckland, his cameo helped India surpass 300, and today in Christchurch, a first-ever ODI fifty helped India raise their total to 219 and give the team some hope.

The 23-year-old experienced a brain fade moment when the game was called off due to rain, albeit it appeared as though the chilly and windy weather at the Hagley Oval caught Washington off guard. Washington seemed disoriented while responding to a query from commentator and former left-arm spinner Murali Karthik. Washington is well-prepared to handle the cold in England after playing with the county team in Lancashire earlier this year, but with the temperature truly dropping in Christchurch, the all-rounder was left feeling a little rusty.

“Definitely, playing for Lancashire in Manchester was very cold. Very similar to … Ummm … very similar to (looks behind puzzled) … Where are we?” he said before Kartik informed him ‘We are in Christchurch’. Washington then continued, “Yes, it helped me prepare for such cold conditions today”.
